Yesterday, in keeping with the whole “I’m in the Fourth of July spirit” mood, I did a quick entry table makeover. I went hunting for some things around the house to help my entryway look a little more festive for this month’s holiday. I had a goal of not spending a penny to decorate and to just reuse random items I already had.

The display didn’t have to be perfect, just a little more colorful than normal. I already had plenty of neutrals and whites for the table, so I just needed some red and blue touches. I grabbed a blue vase that usually sits in the kitchen, a pair of Ryli’s shoes, a necklace, some books, the lily centerpiece from our dining table, and a red box that houses the dog toys.

I played around with the arrangement of the flower vase, the blue vase, and the little white vase for a few minutes until I was satisfied. Then, to add some texture, I threw the blue feather necklace on top of the lamp. It’s a little silly, I know, but it’s fun to look at for a couple of days. I put three red, white, and blue books under the lamp to give the whole display some varying height. Ryli’s red and white shoes (believe it or not, those are some of her “shorter” heels!) fit in perfectly with the display and gave it a little personality.

The table was still missing something after all that, so I went hunting again through my house again. I came up with a wooden frame that I quickly spray painted white, and filled with an image I made in Photoshop. I found the idea for the image here, it was simple, easy and patriotic. I love the little saying: “Land That I Love.”

After all that I had an Independence Day themed table and it was completely F-R-E-E! Yeah, I like the sound of that word.

It’s crazy what you can find around your house for random displays and quickie free projects. All you have to do is get a little creative, and try not to be afraid!

What did you do for the Fourth? Did you watch fireworks and eat BBQ? Or did you spend the day outside and the evening in, crying and watching “Coming Home” like me? I’m such a sap. I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable 4th of July!
