DIY: Coaster Tiles
Seriously, what did we all do before pinterest? I know a majority of the DIY explosion was caused by people wanting to save some money during this rough economic climate, but I’m pretty sure pinterest has played a large role in people taking on projects this past year or so.
My friend Jamie borrowed some inspiration from some bloggers who have made unique tile coasters and shared them on pinterest.

After zipping over to Home Depot for her tiles she gathered some different images she wanted to use for her coasters. Quick side story: When I was a little, I used to hate going to Home Depot, and for whatever reason my Dad used to draaag me there every Saturday or it at least to me it seemed like every Saturday. Anyways, Jamie’s supplies included:
- A small jar of mod-podge
- Spray gloss coating
- A sponge brush
- Images for each of her coaster
- Ceramic tiles
- Felt backing
Her first step was mod podging the image to the tile. She chose two different looks, one was just some simple scrapbook paper she cut into squares, the other (my favorite) were some images of saucy pin-up girls.

To completely attach the image to the tile, first coat the tile surface with a layer of mod podge. Place your image on top of the still wet layer of mod podge and cover the image in another layer of mod podge. Allow it to dry completely.
Add two to three more layers of mod podge to set the image.
Spray a clear layer of high gloss coating to seal in the image and keep any condensation from getting through. Finally, add the felt to the back of the coaster to avoid any potential scraping when in use.
Ah! I love it! I think Jamie may have got my wheels turning with the use of her little pin-ups. Me thinks I’m going to have to incorporate some into my house. What do you think? Are you feeling the pin-ups or the scrapbook paper? Did anyone else feel like I used the word mod podge too many times?
