With the release of so many great movies this year (*cough* The Hunger Games *cough*) there’s nothing I love more than to have a couple of friends over for an evening of movies, catching up and fun. To make sure that the only decisions you’ll need to make on movie night is whether to watch a chick flick or to have that second helping of chips and guacamole you’ll want to make sure you have the perfect room setting before your guests arrive.

Media stands serve more purposes than you may realize. Not only do they provide ample storage for people like me who have oodles of movies, records and games, but they provide elevation for your television so people aren’t straining their necks looking down. Some even provide enough room for you to fit a couple of personal items on such as family photos or decorative vases. If you’re anything like me you have a too many movies, so instead of leaving them in unsightly places like stacked on top of tables you can always find simple storage units that can complement your media center.

By faux dining table I mean coffee table, it’s an unusual thing to use the phrase faux for, but I often get caught eating at my coffee table instead of at my actual dining table. Maybe it’s because I watch too much TV, or maybe it’s because I like to sit on the floor, but I do know that when I have a movie night it’s a great place to station snacks and refreshments. By having a designated snack station in your “movie room” people don’t have to get up to go to the kitchen to refill on treats and drinks and miss the movie.

For movie night you will want to create not only a functional atmosphere but a warm one as well. Add some lighting to create a nice glow to set the movie mood, you will find people will wind down easier if you can mimic the lighting of a movie theater with soft lamps. Even a crackling fireplace can provide soft lighting. Finally, you will want to make sure people have enough cushioning to get cozy, oversized throw pillows and fluffy poufs are a great way to add extra “seats”. You don’t want a rumble from your guests over who gets the prime sofa spots, so make sure everyone has a chance to be comfortable.

I hope you can use these tricks to create the perfect movie night experience for you and your guests. Are there any movies you’re yearning to see?
