Ahh I’m so excited I can’t even wait to share this season’s pinterest project with you all. I’ve had some majorly positive feedback from my past two pinterest projects so I’m very excited to continue this seasonal tradition. This past fall I did a project involving empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls, you can see it by clicking this link, and last summer I did a mason jar project which you can also catch up on by clicking here. This all began from one of my favorite bloggers (Sherry from Younghouselove) and some of her buds saying lets actually start attempting to recreate the inspiration that we’ve been pinning. Thus bringing us to:

I began trolling around pinterest trying to decide what to do and I noticed that I have been pinning a lot of things for my new house, so I decided to take some of the end tables that I’ve been pinning and use that as inspiration to take step four of the kabillion steps I’ll need to take to get my house looking like a home!

Who would have guessed I’m having a secret love affair with the color grey?! I am slightly in love with this color for small accent tables. Like this picture here with it next to a bed.

Or even better this grey buffet table with the awesome hardware.

It all started with a table. Quite an interesting table at that. It’s no secret that I’ve been known to collect furniture people throw out or leave on the side of the road and that is exactly where I picked up this table that has faithfully served me at my old apartment for over a year now. Lucky for this guy (the table that is) he’s going to get a little makeover. He’s a little hexagonal table with only four sturdy legs (he was made that way) and a basket woven top. Straight out of an episode of That ’70′s Show.

Kinda cute in an ugly way right? Maybe it’s just me….

So I began with my supplies. I took a quick trip to my local home depot to select the shade of grey I knew he would soon be. I chose a Behr paint in a seal grey, it’s so soft and pretty that I think he’ll really pop in the room with my new purple couch. I grabbed some sandpaper 150 grit for the tough sanding, and 220 grit for the fine finish. I also picked up some small paint rollers and a small sample of a white paint that I was considering for the basket top portion of the table.

I hand sanded the table first with the 150 grit and made sure I at least removed the top sheen of stain from the table. Remember to go with the grain of the wood when your sanding for a nice even finish. Then I went back over the whole table with a 220 grit to smooth out any bumps. I shined a light after I was done to see if I missed any spots, which means if the light bounced off then I needed more sanding. Pretty rough looking right?

I wiped down the whole table to make sure I didn’t miss any spots. If you don’t it is kind of hard to tell if you have correctly sanded with a whole bunch of dust coating things. Use a soft cloth so as not to damage your furniture.

Then I began painting. I did two even coats of paint on everything that I could get and then flipped it over to get the underside and the other parts that may be visible. I didn’t do the entire bottom portion of the table however because I knew no one was going to be able to see it unless they literally crawled underneath it or lifted it up. Here’s the table with one coat of paint…

Two coats…..

Then I decided to be brave and paint the center basket woven portion a white color. I stuck some paper underneath the rest of the table to protect the grey.

And am I glad I did! I lurve it! Here it is completely complete!!!

This is one of the fastest furniture remakes I think I have ever done. I’m very prone to starting projects and never finishing them, so I’m quite proud of this project. What do you think? Love it or leave it, did you like it better before? I’m in love…..again, I really have too much emotion when it comes to furniture. Anyways, if you’re not on pinterest yet you’re missing out! Check out my pinterest board here. Did anyone else have a great pinterest challenge that they want to share?! Feel free to share your links with me in the comments section! Happy Pinning!

Oh my goodness thank you so much! I wish I could take all the credit for color choices but I can’t, it was actually my friend Christi who pushed me to use white in the center! Thanks for the compliment!

Isn’t it funny the color phases we go through? In my about section it says that I’m all about Blue. Which I was, but now I’m slowly purging my home of all teals and blues and trying to incorporate more greys.
