Store Your Holiday Decorations
Well Halloween is over, Thanksgiving is on the way, and before you know it Christmukkah will be here with its BFF New Years Eve. What do you do with all those decorations? From the plastic pumpkins and skulls to the decorative fall leaf wreaths and the oodles and oodles of special holiday themed wrapping paper? When you’re low on storage space like me you have to get a little inventive with your storage solutions for your once a year decorations!

First things first, before putting all of your normal Oct-Jan decorations away, have major a sorting party. Are those Thanksgiving plastic gourds a little gunky and dusty? Give ‘em a good cleaning so they’ll look fabulous when you take them out of storage next year. What about that table ornament tree, is it looking a little threadbare? Trash it. Also, check for duplicates as they often occur over time with moving, new roommates and marriages.
You want to make sure you utilize all possible space, and that includes space you may not have previously considered. Such as the back wall in the closet. Use items like this to keep your rolls of wrapping paper organized. This particular storage unit can be hung on the wall to create more space, or it can stand on its own when you need to put your wrapping skills to use!
Invest in some simple Rubbermaid storage boxes. By picking more transparent boxes you can easily see what you have stored in each. Add labels to each box detailing the contents so you know exactly what you have. This comes in handy if you’re an “out-of-season-shopper” and you like to make purchases for holiday decor (I buy Halloween candy after October 31st, does that count?), labeling helps prevent duplicate purchases. Simply look in your closet and check your “inventory”.
P.S. Check back for my Rubbermaid product review coming out sometime this month!
I keep the smaller plastic boxes on hand in my laundry room, because that seems to be my go-to organizing solution for everything now. I guess if I’m not careful I might become a pack rat. Uh-oh looks like spring cleaning might come early for me, check out this post on my adventures in spring cleaning this past year!
