Decoration Ideas for your Christmas Yard
(Image from Flickr)
Give an elegant look to your Christmas yard display this season. Make sure that your yard decor is not so fancy and loud that it loses it touch of sophistication. Moderation is the key to achieve a distinct look for your Christmas yard that separates it from the rest of the neighborhood. If you plan ahead, you can manage to get the right display that you have visualized. Make a few rough sketches and take some measurements if necessary to ensure that your decorations fit into the appropriate spaces.
Put safety ahead of everything else, and follow the directions provided for all decorations correctly. The decorations must be approved as safe for outdoor usage. Do not overcrowd the spaces-your yard, particularly if you have a smaller front yard. Cluttering your yard with too many decorations will cost you more, and yet fail to achieve the goals of a fine display. Enlist family members and friends in advance to lend a helping hand with the display. You know them, if you do it yourself they will be the Monday morning quarterbacks that you do not want to hear and their endless advice will not stop until New Year’s Day!
Traditional Decor
If you are a Christmas traditionalist, and wish to acquaint your little children with the traditional festive decor, look for decorations that feature snowmen, Santa, and other iconic Christmas images. But most importantly in this scene would be the nativity scene of the baby Jesus which your children may see others do and if you do not explain to them what Christmas is really about or where its roots come from – they will not know. You can add candles or battery operated candle-like lights to your window sills that face the front yard. It will provide a warm glow to your home exteriors. When you set your iconic and beautiful Christmas tree up, see if you can set it up in a position where it is visible from a window so that it can seen from the yard. Every home should manifest that one of a kind Christmas spirit.
Greenery and Wreaths
Surround the yard door with live, natural greenery, if you wish to provide a classic touch to your display. Wreaths can also provide a classic touch, as long as you ensure that you are not overdoing it. You may add a colorful bow to the wreath that gels with the general color scheme of your yard decor. For a traditional look, you may hang the wreath on the door. Another good idea is to hang a small wreath on each window, and a large wreath at the top of the home. The wreaths may include flowers, pine cones, or real fruit. Decorations that are Christmassy in nature are more appropriate. Real fruit? That may attract critters and that fresh fruit look may be fleeting (certainly if you live in Florida). That would certainly not be that practical but if you have the time (hopefully you do not have to switch out the fruit) and money, it could be unique and memorable.
Of course if you ever are trapped outside or accidentally locked outside of your home, having some fruit to eat could prove beneficial until some help arrives.
Lighting
Unless you have an inclination to having a boisterous and loud multicolored lighting display, you can differentiate your outdoor Christmas lighting display by using exclusive, small white lights. Compared to large, flashy or blinking lights, a handful of strands of small white lights can provide an exquisite lighting display to your Christmas yard decor.
This is all about your prerogative. Some people hire Christmas lighting professionals, everyone’s budget is different. This is the time to show the neighborhood that you have some sense of style and artistic flavor. Just because someone has more money than you does not mean their sense of style trumps yours.
High-tech Decor
If technology fascinates you, you can have an iChristmas! Consider a creative, high-tech yard decor for Christmas. Inflatable snow globes for Christmas are a popular yard addition nowadays. Cordless fiber optic wreaths in place of natural wreaths can transform the entire look of your yard. Animated teddy bears, snowmen, and Santa are something your kids are going to love. Twinkling snowflakes, Christmas icicle lighting, and clear rope lights can light up your Christmas yard creatively.
The options are endless. The only limitation is the human imagination. This is your time to dazzle yourself and impress your neighbors, friends, and family! Let the lights and decorations do the bragging and talking for you!
