Product Review: Cooling Gel Mat

Finally! Something has been created for someone like me who sleeps hot. I’m especially hot when it comes to my feet and legs, which makes it super duper hard for me to fall asleep. Typically at night I try to keep my room temperature around 71°-73°, I have my ceiling fan running, and I have a tower fan that literally lives at the foot of my bed just for my feet. All this to keep me cool, not to mention I don’t even sleep with real blankets anymore, just a fitted sheet over my mattress and light comforter my Grandma would probably lose her mind if she knew that. I remember a little while back I went to Brookstone in search of some sort of device to cool my legs, I think I actually asked them if there was any chance that they had cooling socks. First they kinda looked at me like they were going to call security, but then they just recommended an extra tower fan. NEWSFLASH! I already have one. So I resigned to the fact that I would just have to deal. And deal I did, for a long time it was long nights of covers on/covers off, wake up/fall asleep, sometimes I would even have to get up in the middle of the night just to go run some cold water into the bathtub and I would just soak my feet in it until they cooled off. Yes, those were long nights. Now I’m not saying this happened every night, but it has definitely been an issue.

My Experience:

First of all I knew this was going be a great discovery since the mat is instantly cool to the touch. So I spread it out on top of my mattress cover but under my fitted sheet. It’s designed to cover the area of the bed that your core rests on, that is to say from your shoulder/neck area to mid calf/knee area. Your core is hottest part of your body so it was created to target that part of the body.

The gel starts out at a temperature that is 5° – 8° cooler than room temperature. As soon as I laid down I felt a cool shiver of relief, a feeling completely foreign to me. I fell asleep within minutes. The best part? I don’t remember the rest of the night, know why? Because I was asleep. I call that a success in my book. When I woke the next morning the cool gel mat pretty much matched the temperature of the rest of my bed.

I used it on and off again throughout the week as needed. When I don’t need it I just fold it up and stick it under my bed. Anyways no more ups and downs for me in the middle of the night, and I no longer have a hard time falling asleep because my feet and legs feel like they are about to burst into flames. I’m considering buying one just for my office because the mat is extremely portable. I could see myself needing it this summer in the office (where I can’t control the temperature) and just draping it over my office chair. I mean lets be honest, I’m not just hot at night, even though that is often when I am at my worst, I tend to be hot all throughout the day.

Ugh, okay, quick pause to gather some courage as I am about to show you the inner workings of my bedroom. Try not to be too horrified.
